The third annual European Film Festival of Atlanta (EFFA) is coming back May 8-11.

Presented by the Alliance Française Atlanta and the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta, the EEFA will take place at the Plaza and Tara Theatres. According to a press release, this year will include films from 14 countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland and Ukraine.

The Consulate General of Belgium will host the opening night reception at the Tara Theatre on May 8 with the Belgian film “La Fiancée du Poète.” Academy Award winner “Anatomy of a Fall” will also play at the festival.

The festival will also host a screening of the Ukrainian documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” and donate part of its proceeds to Helping Ukraine, a Georgia-based nonprofit that aims to assist Ukranians impacted by the war.

“Films allow us to feel many emotions and to see things outside of our normal day to day lives. We selected a range of European movies, one of them being Oscar-winner ‘20 Days in Mariupol,’ which sadly showcases the realities of war,” said Michel Gerebtzoff, Consul General of Belgium in Atlanta, in the release. “A way we thought we could give back is by showing the powerful movie with our Atlanta community while giving back to the Ukrainian community.”
