The Sandy Springs City Council is prioritizing improvements to the Morgan Falls Dog Park in the list of capital projects to add to its FY2025 budget, with approximately $1.8 million available for the project.

City Manager Eden Freeman presented $21.4 million in capital projects during the City Council’s second budget workshop on May 14.

The dog park project includes drainage work up the hill from its location next to the Chattahoochee River. Additional upgrades would include a dog wash station, drinking fountain, shade structures, site furnishings, bioswales and dog agility equipment.

Dog parks have been identified as a top five facility priority in the city’s Recreation and Parks Master Plan.

Ridgeview Park improvements, including the addition of a public restroom, would use another $400,000 of the available funds.

A $300,000 capital allocation would enable the rehabilitation or replacement of 399 illuminated street signs.

The city council members also favored a $200,000 allocation for a Perimeter Small Area Plan, which would examine how to reimagine aging office space and increase walkability, livability, and spur redevelopment of outdated shopping centers.

A Roswell Road Safety Project concept study would get $200,000 for the section between Cliftwood Drive/Carpenter Drive to Hammond Drive.

The Sandy Springs City Council will holds its third budget workshop on May 21. They’re expected to vote on the budget on June 18.
