A 33-year-old Conyers man who was found with a Glock 17 pistol and ammunition in his backpack was arrested at a Target store in Tucker on June 12 after allegedly stealing more than $500 in Disney and Pokémon merchandise.

According to an incident report filed by DeKalb Police Officer Kennedy Ansah, the suspect, Johnathan Harrison, was observed by a store asset manager putting items in his backpack around 4 p.m. at the 4241 LaVista Road location. He approached the point-of-sale terminal and paid for a drink, then attempted to leave the store.

“The suspect passed the first exit door, but was apprehended at the second exit door,” the report said.

The backpack, which contained merchandise totaling $553, included Disney and Pokémon items. Upon searching the backpack, Ansah found a Glock 17 9mm pistol, as well as a magazine and 15 bullets.

Harrison, who was charged with felony shoplifting,  was transported to DeKalb County Jail, and, according to the jail’s website, was released on bond on June 18 at 3:16 a.m.
