The City of Atlanta has received a $16 million grant for Westside infrastructure improvements from the federal Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program.

The RAISE grant funds will “enhance connectivity and safety around one of Atlanta’s newest signature additions, Westside Park,” according to a press release from the city. The project will encompass key areas along Johnson Road, West Marietta Street, Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, Brady Avenue, and 10th Street.

Multi-use paths, buffered cycle tracks, sidewalk improvements, ADA bus enhancements, lighting and stormwater updates are all part of the planned improvement.

“We are enthusiastic about what this means for one of our fastest-growing neighborhoods,” Mayor Andre Dickens said in a statement. “By delivering over 3.1 miles of multimodal improvements in and around Westside Park, we will be able to promote more convenient transportation options for all, while creating a vibrant urban environment.”

“I am thrilled that the City of Atlanta has been awarded the $16 million RAISE Grant,” said Councilmember Dustin Hillis. “The project, in partnership with the Upper Westside CID, will connect neighborhoods and greatly improve the corridor between Westside Park and Georgia Tech, increasing access and safety for all users here in Northwest Atlanta.”

“Westside Thrive will safely and equitably connect residents in underserved communities on Atlanta’s Westside through multimodal improvements to nearby business districts, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta BeltLine trail and Westside Park,” said Elizabeth Hollister, Executive Director of Upper Westside CID. “With the support of the City of Atlanta and Councilmembers Byron Amos and Dustin Hillis, we are addressing over a century of transportation neglect, connecting residents to major employment hubs, educational institutions and recreational areas.”

Construction on this project is slated to begin in January 2028.
