Science Gallery Atlanta at Emory University is moving from Pullman Yards to Northlake Mall and debuting a new exhibition that focuses on sustainability.
According to Science Gallery and its collaboration partners Emory University and Accenture, the relocation allows for the opportunity to operate in expanded space that has free parking, access to public transportation, and a variety of shopping and dining options.
Science Gallery will be located in a space in the mall that formerly housed the Old Navy store.
Alexis Faust, who was appointed the gallery’s executive director last September, said the new space is moving to an area with “a robust and growing community.”
“The new space also offers us an opportunity to connect our community with Emory University,” Faust said. “All of the stars aligned for this move.”
In 2019, Emory relocated several departments, including its office of compliance, physician group practice training center, and marketing department to Northlake.
The 20,000 square-foot space is now being built out for the Sept. 14 debut of Resilient Earth, an immersive exhibit that showcases sustainability and urges attendees to “recognize your existing contributions to the heath of our planet while discovering your own path forward to a more resilient future,” according to a release from the organizations.
Faust said the exhibit will include about 15 installations, some of which are interactive, hands-on, and involve virtual reality.
“This exhibit focuses on the visitor,” she said. “It will make you think about your own views and your impact on the earth. It involves beautiful compelling experiences.”
New programs will also be developed with the relocation of the gallery, including networking opportunities for young professionals, and curated educational curriculum focusing specifically on elementary, middle and high school.
“We will also have wonderful workshop space that will accommodate groups from Kindergarten to 12th grade,” she said.
Atlanta’s Science Gallery is part of an international network “of leading universities that drives collaboration, transforms communities, and empowers young people through art-science experimentation,” according to the overarching Science Gallery website.
Other locations include Bengaluru in India, Berlin, Dublin, London, Melbourne, Monterrey, and Rotterdam.
Resilient Earth, at Northlake Mall, 4800 Briarcliff Road, will run through April 2025. The exhibit is open and free to the public, although special programs may incur a fee.
