Everyone in Tucker and beyond knows and loves Sherry’s Produce – not only because of the fresh fruits and vegetables, pumpkins and Christmas trees, but also the engaging personalities of everyone who works there, from Uncle Wayne to Sherry’s daughter, Tina Harvey.

The Tucker community is now showing their love financially for Sherry’s husband, Junior Harris, who suffered a major stroke last week that resulted in paralysis on his left side. Harvey reported that while Harris can’t move his left side, he does respond to touch, an encouraging sign.

A Go Fund Me page for Junior has garnered more than $14,000, funds that will be used for a 16-day stay in a rehabilitation facility. The total, however, is expected to exceed $40,000.

This will be the first stop on an expensive journey for Harris, who does not have insurance. The family wants to continue his recovery at Shepherd Clinic, a division of the Shepherd Center that helps with stroke recovery. That will be an additional expense.

Harris is still in crisis mode at this point, his daughter reported. While at the rehab center, his blood pressure dropped to 73/48 several times.

“We are praying that we get that figured out,” Harvey said, adding that she and her family are overwhelmed with the outpouring of community support.

“You have no idea how loved we feel,” she said on the GoFundMe page. “Thank you to those that couldn’t donate, but sent prayers and well wishes. Every one counts and helps.”

Sherry’s Produce, located at the corner of Lawrenceville Highway and Brockett Road has been a fixture in Tucker for decades. Its Facebook page is filled with glowing reviews about the knowledgeable staff and quality produce.

“Best place in Tucker for fresh tomatoes, okra, boiled peanuts, watermelon, green beans, and much more,” one post read. You learn to appreciate those local businesses with community at heart.”
