The Commission to Determine an Appropriate Manner in Which to Honor Mayor Shirley Clarke Franklin will hold its next meeting on Tues., Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Marvin S. Arrington, Sr. Council Chamber in City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave. SW.

The public is invited to submit their suggestions to honor Franklin for the Commission’s consideration during the Public Comment section of the meeting. The Commission has been meeting since June to collaborate on the best way to honor the legacy of Atlanta’s first woman Mayor.

Shirley Clarke Franklin became the City’s 58th Mayor in 2001 and cemented her mark on Atlanta through programs and initiatives such as the “Clean Water Atlanta” initiative and Mayor’s Youth Program.

She bought the 280-acre site that, under her vision, would later become Westside Park, began the process of establishing a permanent museum to Atlanta’s role in human and civil rights, and partnered with Atlanta Public Schools to guide thousands of graduating seniors to internships and a career development plan beyond high school.
