The Dunwoody United Methodist Performing Arts Program, celebrating its 20th season, will premier its production of “Sister Act” Oct. 4,5, and 6.
The production, directed by Joy Gregory, stars Phillia (‘Lia’) Prior as Deloris Van Cartier, an aspiring singer who is forced to go on the run when she witnesses her gangster boyfriend committing a murder.
The play is based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg. Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken scored the music in the film. The musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
“Directing this cast of ‘Sister Act’ has been an absolute pleasure,” Gregory said. “Atlanta has so much talent and that talent shines brightly in this cast. It has been an honor to watch how such a diverse group of people with varied musical theatre backgrounds have come together to ‘raise one voice,’ a voice that speaks of acceptance, friendship, faith, and love. “
A live stream recording of the pre-performance on Oct. 3 will take place and the play will have performances Oct. 4, 5, and 6. Streaming tickets can be purchased online. Live tickets are available here. Tickets for either performance are $15 each.
The season will continue with “Miracle On 34th Street (A Radio Play)” in December and “The Importance Of Being Earnest” in March 2025.
