Theater Emory will present “The Other Shore,” an experimental and improvisation-based minimalist production written by Gao Xingjian.
The story follows the journey of one central character, The Man, who is continually harassed and pressured by the masses to conform.
“I am enchanted by the non-linear, avant-garde qualities of Gao’s storytelling,” says Director Annalee Traylor. “In ‘The Other Shore,’ Gao propels our imagination to the forefront, liberating us from the rational urge to seek straightforward answers. What a gift.”
The cast is largely made up of Emory students including Matias Campos-Ladinez (C’27), Emma Clapp (C’26), Delaney Ford (C’27), Izaiah Garner (C’27), Aldyn Goheen (C’25), Noah Lian (C’25), Lolu Oyewale (C’28), Morgan Schatmeyer (C’27), Olivia Stanley(C’28), Lola Vescovo (Graduate School), and Wayne Wang (C’26).
They are joined by Atlanta professional Wanyu Yang, who last performed with Theater Emory in “Blood Wedding.” The production team includes costume design by John Meritt and sound design by Kacie Willis.
“The Other Shore” will be performed for one weekend only on Nov. 21-24 at the Mary Gray Munroe Theater on the campus of Emory University.
