Tucker Masonic Lodge #42 will be participating in its first Wreaths Across America ceremony on Dec. 14.

At noon that day, the group will be commemorating the lives of veterans who are interred at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4278 Chamblee Tucker Rd., by placing wreaths on their graves.

Wreaths Across America has been honoring veterans in this manner for the last 18 years, according to its website.

More than two million volunteers and supporters are expected to gather this year at more than 4,600 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.

“No matter where they served or how, Wreaths Across America strives to ensure that no one is forgotten,” according to its website.

Wreaths Across America’s mission is to “remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.”

There are several ways to assist in the effort – by sponsoring a wreath, volunteering, or partnering with groups on National Wreaths Across America Day.

Tucker’s ceremony, according to Worshipful Master Marvin Brown, will include the Tucker High School AFJROTC presenting the colors followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The lodge has also asked Tucker’s Boy Scout Troop #129 to help with laying wreaths on the graves of more than 70 service members at Pleasant Hill.

“Together, we will honor the legacies of these heroes with gratitude and respect,” Brown said.

On National Wreaths Across America Day,  he said, “when a volunteer places a wreath on a service member’s grave, we encourage them to speak that individual’s name aloud, thank them for their service and sacrifice, and reflect on their life.”
