The Office of Mayor Andre Dickens and the Atlanta City Council have released memorial service information for former Georgia state senator and community activist Vincent Fort.

Sen. Fort, who died Dec. 22 at age 68, will lie in state on Friday, Jan. 3 with a public viewing scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside Atlanta City Hall’s Sam A. Massell Council Chamber at the 68 Mitchell St. entrance.

Family service and Fort’s masonic last rites will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home West End Chapel.

The celebration of life and memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Lindsay Steet Baptist Church, 55 Lindsay St. NW.

Fort was a decorated State of Georgia senator representing the 39th District and dedicated more than two decades to public service. He was known for his fierce advocacy towards social justice, education reform, and economic equality while addressing poverty, criminal justice reform, and equitable opportunities for residents.
