Contractors will close two left lanes in both directions on I-285 nightly starting Feb. 3 between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive. (Provided by GDOT)

Starting Monday, Feb. 3, motorists can expect four weeks of nightly lane closures on I-285 eastbound and westbound between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive so contractors can remove and replace overhead sign structures.

A release from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said that weather permitting, two left lanes and left shoulders in both directions will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. All traffic lanes will remain open during daytime hours.

The exact time of the work may change due to weather conditions. Intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures may occur within the work zone. Expect delays and reduce speed while traveling through work zones.

Motorists can get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.

The work is part of the I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane project, which extends the auxiliary lane between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive and reconstructed the Mt. Vernon Highway bridge over I-285.

The project is one of the I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects, according to the release. It is part of the large-scale Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP)  projects across the state to create additional capacity to improve freight movement, provide operational improvements and efficiencies, enhance safety, and decrease travel times.

Additional project information is available at I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane Extension website.
