The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) will present BAM! (Black Artists in Music), the university’s acclaimed concert celebrations of Black History Month and Black musical artists.
The Savannah concert will return to SCAD’s Lucas Theatre for the Arts at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, with a newly added second show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. The Atlanta concert will follow at SCADshow at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27. Tickets are $15 for SCAD Card holders and students and $35 for the general public.
This year’s shows honor the influential voices of Black musical artists and their contributions to the world of film.
Grammy Award nominee and Broadway sensation Avery Wilson (The Wiz, The Voice) will join the SCAD Bee Sharps, the university’s vocal ensemble, at the concert series featuring iconic hit songs from culture-defining Black artists in gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, spiritual, and blues, as well as spoken word and dance.
Wilson will share the stage with multiple SCAD alums, including American Idol winner and SCAD music coordinator Candice Glover, Kingdom Business and Empire actor Kiandra “Kiki” Richardson, and singer and performer Terrence Williams Jr., along with a special appearance by SCAD acting professor Isaiah Johnson, and members from the SCAD Bee Sharps. Actress and singer Anika Noni Rose will also take part in the performance.
The concerts, from the minds of SCAD executive ensembles artistic director Mike Evariste (Les Misérables, South Pacific, The Book of Mormon, Hair) and choreographer and SCAD acting professor Tiffany Evariste (Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, Motown), is a musical journey honoring the influential voices of Black music artists and their monumental contributions to the world of film.
