March Art News
🍾 In the heart of the Georgia Tech campus, a new permanent art installation called “Pathway of Progress: Celebrating Georgia Tech Women” will soon be unveiled. On Sat., March 8 moderators will present a panel discussion at 10 a.m. followed by a ribbon cutting at 12 p.m. The monumental installation consists of a shimmering suspended mosaic of nearly 3,000 tiles stretching through the campus and culminating in a wrapped granite bench and table. Designed by Georgia Tech alumna Merica May Jensen, over time this installation’s many tiles will each be dedicated to the legacies of impactful women at Tech. (pictured)
🤝 The Aster Project will host a launch event for “Art As Our Witness,” bringing together 20 families who have lost loved ones to police violence for a night of remembrance and solidarity. Through community engagement with public art and storytelling, the Aster Project works to reverse misrepresentation and erasure of victims of police violence. This event serves as a celebration of Aster Project’s recently acquired grant to paint a large-scale mural in the center of downtown Atlanta. Expect to hear from featured speakers, enjoy gourmet eats, and experience music and art during the event. Tomorrow, Thurs., March 6 from 7-10 p.m. at 933 Lee Street.
🏆 The Georgia Museum of Art in Athens received two statewide awards from the Georgia Association of Museums (GAM) at their annual conference in February. The museum was awarded with the Special Project Award for lobby drawings by Sol LeWitt and an Exhibition Award for “Kei Ito: Staring at the Face of the Sun.” LeWitt’s conceptual and minimalist art has graced the lobby of the museum since 2024. Partially funded by a grant from the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation, the works were also used to produce inspired collaborations with students. Meanwhile, Kei Ito’s photography exhibit exploring the trauma of nuclear war spanned five galleries and incorporated sound, video, and projected imagery.
