“Celebrating Women of Color… DeKalb Women Speak,” a commemorative event that takes place during Women’s History Month, is set to return for its 14th year at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in Decatur.
Taking place on International Women’s Day (Saturday, March 8), the initiative aims to “inspire, educate and entertain” women and girls in the Atlanta community with a variety of performances and programming, according to a release.
Hosted by WAOK 1380 AM’s Juandolyn Stokes, this year’s program features a reading by poet Theresa Tha Song Bird, a step show performance by the Champion Theme Middle School Stompers, a reenactment of Black women history makers by 11-year-old Sherele Walker, a fireside chat with DeKalb’s newly elected CEO, Lorraine Cochran Johnson, and more.
After the programming concludes, attendees will get to enjoy a brunch hosted by Z Fabulous and live music by DJ ChuckTown, along with networking opportunities, line dancing, games, prizes, wellness activities and a vendor’s row.
“Celebrating Women of Color…” is produced by Atlanta public relations firm, Chit Chat Communications, who partnered with the DeKalb County Superior Court Clerk for this year’s event.
“With the hopes of expansion this year, we were blessed to bring our program to DeKalb County through our partnership with DeKalb County Superior Court Clerk Debra DeBerry,” said Carla Morrison, chief executive officer of Chit Chat Communications and organizer of the event. “Next year we plan to turn this event into an expo experience.”
Tickets for the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., are $30 and can be purchased through the Eventbrite website.
