The Atlanta City Council approved a resolution authorizing a nearly $6 million project management agreement with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID) for the Courtland/Piedmont Safe Streets Project.
In partnership with the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT), the project will see Courtland repaved and enhanced between Ralph McGill Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Piedmont Avenue between North and MLK Jr. Drive will also get the same treatment.
Part of the plan is to install a bus-only lane along the corridors as well as bike lanes. Work is expected to start later this year
In other news, the council held first readings of three ordinances connected to The Stitch project – the park that will cover the I-75-85 Downtown Connector.
One ordinance would see the creation of the Atlanta Stitch Special Services District and designating boundaries for the district, while another provides for an ad valorem tax levy on property located within the Special Service District.
A third ordinance would authorize the ADID to proceed with the implementation of The Stitch project.
