Sandy Springs wants community input to help guide its preparation of design guidelines for the city’s commercial areas, and has scheduled another meeting and several pop-up events to hear residents’ preferences.
The second meeting will be held Monday, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre Lobby of the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center at 1 Galambos Way. A news release said it will focus on preferred design approaches for three of the six commercial and mixed-use areas – City Springs, North End, and Perimeter.
The city scheduled several online and in-person opportunities for community members who can’t attend the meeting to learn more about the design guidelines and provide input. For online participation, exhibit materials and an online survey will be posted on spr.gs/design starting May 19. The survey will close on June 9.
Residents can stop by several pop-up events wherein the design guidelines team will share information and collect input on the guidelines for the three focus areas. Upcoming dates and locations include:
- City Springs at the Sandy Springs Farmers Market at 1 Galambos Way on Saturday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
- North End at Morgan Falls Overlook Park at 200 Morgan Falls Road on Saturday, May 17, from 2 to 5 p.m.
- Perimeter at Hammond Park, 705 Hammond Drive, on Sunday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The design guidelines aim to ensure future development aligns with adopted planning documents and the development code and promotes a unique sense of place in Sandy Springs.
The release said the guidelines will build on standards included in the development code and technical manual by providing additional design direction for building features, building sites, landscaping, streetscapes, and other elements that will shape the appearance and experience in six commercial and mixed-use areas of the city, including:
- City Springs
- Crossroads
- Neighborhood Village
- North End
- Perimeter
- Powers Ferry
