The field for the Atlanta City Council race continues to grow ahead of this November’s election, with Rohit Malhotra making a bid for city council president and Perrin Bostic throwing his hat in for District 3.

SaportaReport said Malhotra, the founder of the Center for Civic Innovation (CCI), filed paperwork on May 9, becoming the second candidate in the race. Atlanta City Council member Marci Collier Overstreet announced her bid in April.

Current Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman announced in February that he would not seek re-election due to medical issues affecting his family.

Malhotra, 38, founded CCI with a team of “nerds” in 2014 to investigate the city’s public policy issues. He will be taking a leave of absence as executive director to run for office.

Perrin Bostic announced his bid to unseat incumbent Byron Amos for the District 3 council seat earlier this week. In a press release, Bostic said he’s already raised $31,000 in early grassroots donations.

“Our campaign is built on one simple belief: we can do better,” Bostic said in the release. “For too long, our communities from Home Park to Harvel Holmes have been ignored while others reap the benefits of our city’s growth. It’s time for leadership that shows up, listens, and fights hard for the neighborhoods that built this city.”

Bostic has worked as Director of Constituent Services for former Councilman Antonio Brown and Outreach Representative for Sen. Raphael Warnock.
