Brookhaven City Council members passed resolutions at the May 13 meeting to continue improving the safety of Ashford Park neighborhood’s paths and roads.
Council members unanimously voted to pay $25,000 to acquire a 3,000-square-foot temporary construction easement at 3074 Caldwell Rd., which will complete the Caldwell-Redding intersection improvement project.
The project has been in the design phase since early 2023. A memo from the city stated that “as the design phase nears its end, the city’s Right-of-Way Agent, Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT), has been working with individual project stakeholders to reach mutually agreed-upon prices via appraisals for the necessary easements.”
Lighting will be added to the Ashford Park pedestrian path between Pamela Drive at Cravenridge Drive and Parkridge Drive. The city is entering a service agreement with Georgia Power for an initial cost of $14,960 and monthly cost that breaks down to $687 per year.
District 2 Council Member Jennifer Owens said residents have been asking for safety improvements.
“This was one of the recommendations from a committee that we pulled together with city staff, parents, and elected officials. This is just another step in our ongoing commitment to make it safer to move around Ashford Park Elementary,” Owens said.
Council members also passed an ordinance to appropriate $37,500 for consulting services for a lot at 3826 Clairmont Road, which the city took over from an automotive dealer, as well as four parcel assemblages at the Windsor-Osborne Intersection.
“We are always looking to do innovative things in Brookhaven. We are looking at parcels that are potentially going to be developed, and generating ideas and generating new ways of building community-based, and quite frankly, not just your typical housing. We’re putting skin in the game,” Brookhaven Mayor John Park said.
