Amplify My Community announced that it is donating $20,000 to the Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) and Decatur Education Foundation (DEF), a pair of nonprofits based in Atlanta.
The funds were raised from the Amplify Decatur Music Festival, the nonprofit’s annual event that features numerous concerts in Decatur Square and other venues in the area.
Founded in 1969, DCM aims to help families that are facing homelessness by providing programs that offer transitional housing, shelter, homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing and permanent supportive housing.
DEF works with the City of Decatur to ensure that local students have the necessary resources, opportunities and experiences to “foster their growth and ensure their academic success,” according to a release.
Amplify My Community says that the funding raised from the music festival is unrestricted and will help aid each organization’s respective goals.
“We are thrilled to be able to make this gift to two incredibly worthy groups, especially in the current environment in which funding for nonprofits is threatened,” said Drew Robinson, president of the Amplify My Community board. “Amplify’s success is truly a testament to the strength of our community – starting from (festival director) Christine Mahin’s leadership, and including all of our generous sponsors, our wonderful volunteers, the city of Decatur, and local business partners.”
To date, Amplify My Community has donated over $645,000 to anti-poverty and homelessness-focused nonprofits — with more than $430,000 going to organizations in the Decatur area alone.
