Sandy Springs opened applications for its 2025-26 Citizens’ Leadership Academy to empower and educate residents and businesses within the community about city operations.

According to the news release, the multi-week program offers a comprehensive curriculum to foster an informed and active citizenry.

Sandy Springs City Hall, the new Sandy Springs Police Headquarters and Municipal Court Complex, and other city facilities will host the classes in the academy’s third year.

The academy class size is capped at 30 participants. A $35 fee is due upon confirmation of attendance.

The academy’s curriculum enables participants to meet with the mayor, city council, and city staff to learn more about local government, civic responsibility, and community leadership.

The academy will include 11 classes ranging from City Management and Recreation and Parks to Emergency Management and Signature Events. It will conclude with graduation at a city council meeting in the spring.

After the program, participants are expected to have gained a deep understanding of the structure, functions, and responsibilities of local government. The curriculum will provide the tools and knowledge needed to engage and take on leadership roles within Sandy Springs.

Several current city council candidates are graduates of the Citizens’ Leadership Academy.
