The City of Tucker will start celebrating America’s birthday a day early with an evening of food, music, and fireworks.

The July 3 celebration starts at 6 p.m. with 12 food trucks located on and around Main Street. In addition, restaurants like Nicky’s Undefeated and the Local 7 will have street-side service, according to Tucker Event Manager Ryan Wenzel.

About 10,000 people are expected to attend the event.

A kid’s zone will be set up with games and inflatables, and DJ Fernando will spin tunes before honky tonk/country band The Faster Horses takes the stage from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The fireworks show, which will last about 30 minutes, is scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m.

Tucker Mayor Frank Auman said during an interview last July that the tradition of holding the Independence Day celebration on July 3 came about organically during the second year of cityhood.

“We were kind of late to the game trying to book a fireworks company, and everyone was booked, but one company said if we did it the day before, it would be half price,” Auman said. “We loved that and the people loved it, so we stuck with it.”

Auman said the celebration is one of his favorites because of the opportunity for people to meet neighbors and make new friends.

“This is a great family tradition that a lot of people look forward to each year,” Wenzel said.
