More than 100 local LGBTQ+ leaders have signed on to signal their support for an LGBTQ+ community center in Atlanta.

Household names and hometown heroes like Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Marlo Hampton and Emmy-winning actor Dyllón Burnside, drag royalty Brigitte Bidet and Pressure K, and advocate like Tori Cooper of HRC and Bishop O.C. Allen of Vision Cathedral have joined the ranks of educators, youth advocates, elected officials, and cultural influencers to rally around the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority’s (AFCRA) study into the feasibility of an LGBTQ+ community center.

The year-long LGBTQ+ Community Center Feasibility Study is an effort, helmed by Project Director Malik Brown, to explore the potential development of an LGBTQ+ community center in Atlanta.

While over 200 brick-and-mortar LGBTQ+ centers exist nationwide, Atlanta is one of the only major metro cities to not have one. As part of the project, AFCRA has engaged with different identity and interest groups across the community, like artists, trans leaders, Black community members, women, and the AAPI community, to gauge the specific needs of these marginalized groups.

The creation of this ambassador program is the latest effort by AFCRA to mobilize the community toward participating in the Community Input Survey. The survey has received 1,900 responses, and AFCRA hopes to reach 2,000 by Atlanta Pride.
