“The Table is Ours,” a short film showcase, is set to take place at Ambient Plus Studio in Atlanta on Aug. 27.
The showcase is put on by On Set ATL, an independent film screening and networking showcase founded by Jhaneal Hector and Martina Lindo in 2022. The event will premiere four filmmakers from the Southeast, all of whom are returning filmmakers from previous On Set ATL events.
“It’s important to connect within the industry and acknowledge the courage it takes to create the opportunities you want but don’t often see,” Lindo said in a press release. “We’re here to help filmmakers show their work and get the support necessary to propel their project in a way that reflects their vision.”
The four films are “8 Count,” directed by Rai’Vaun; “Hurry Up & Wait,” from executive producer, writer, and lead actress Jamila C. Gray; “Weirdo,” directed by Creed Smith; and “Breathe,” directed by Mya-Breyana Morton. The movies range from comedy to drama.
“The visionaries behind these projects have uniquely pushed boundaries in the independent film space and serve as a testament to the magic that happens when artists stop waiting for a seat at the table and start building their own,” Hector said in the release.
