Atlantic Station, the former Atlanta steel mill turned mixed-use development, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a year of events planned.

The Midtown property will commemorate the major anniversary by hosting a “Roaring ’20s-themed” event on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m., in addition to other public activities that Atlantic Station says it will reveal in the coming weeks.

Along with events, Atlantic Station also plans on releasing a wide variety of 20th anniversary content such as social media highlights, behind-the-scenes stories, creative collaborations and more, with the purpose of showcasing the development’s “integral role as a cultural connector in the heart of Atlanta,” according to a release.

Built on the former Atlantic Steel Mill site, Atlantic Station originally opened its doors to the public back on Oct. 21, 2005.

Standing as one of the nation’s first large-scale brownfield redevelopments, Atlantic Station blends eight million square feet of residential, retail, hotel and office space, with over 6,000 residents living at the property and garnering an estimated 11 million visitors annually.

Among the features of the mixed-use development include communal green spaces, a dog park, children’s playground, bicycle training area, walking path and is home to several brands like Microsoft, Piedmont Healthcare and Wells Fargo.

The property has garnered acclaim from city planners around the world for its sustainable urban design choices, including its use of LEED-certified buildings and elements that promote walkability and connectivity.

“Atlantic Station represents a transformative chapter in Atlanta’s modern resurgence, living up to the city’s motto of ‘Resurgens’,” said Vikram Mehra, senior managing director at Hines, the Houston-based owner of the Atlanta development.

“Over the past 20 years, it has grown from a visionary redevelopment into a vibrant, mixed-use district and a center of economic and cultural vitality. Atlantic Station has created thousands of jobs and helped establish Midtown as a thriving hub for retail, residential and business.”
