Who knew bubbles could be re-imagined and repurposed so many different ways?
Bubble Planet, which debuted last week at Exhibition Hub in Doraville, with explosive bursts of cool colors and cylindrical orbs, encourages visitors to travel room by room for a new take on the bubble.
From the beginning to the end of the installation, bubbles appear in a myriad of forms. From a traditional bubble machine that is triggered when visitors enter the exhibit to the giant bubble bath room filled with a half-million plastic bubbles, it’s a sensory experience that will appeal to children and adults.
There’s the kaleidoscope room that takes visitors inside the rolling and tumbling colors of the interior of one of childhood’s favorite toys and the bubble dome, where participants can flop onto bean bag chairs and let the ever-changing color patterns and soothing music wash over them.
“When you land on Bubble Planet, you can take some time to just get away from everything,” John Zaller, executive producer of Exhibition Hub, said. “There are areas of activity along with areas of reflection.”
One of the dozen rooms in the installation is what Zaller calls “the world’s biggest bubble bath,” loaded with hundreds of thousands plastic balls in a giant bathtub with lights that rotate in soothing colors. Think of the ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese and multiply it by 100,000.

The 10,000-square-foot installation also includes a series of selfie booths, all, of course, bubble-themed, and a virtual reality experience that flies you all over the world and features some of earth’s most iconic landmarks with the addition of bubbles (like the Statue of Liberty with bubbles flowing out of her torch).
Zaller said the creators of the exhibit, which has toured all over America and Europe, “really considered color theory” while endeavoring to develop an atmosphere that encourages feelings of wonder and happiness.
