The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is opening its 81st season with six new musicians joining its ensemble.

The orchestra announced that it is adding Julia Su, William Dunlop, Reese Farnell, Scott Sanders, Kelly Kanai and Jin Wook Suk to its roster.

Su, an Atlanta native and former concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, returns to ASO (previously a soloist with the company) as second violinist after completing her degree programs at Rice University.

Dunlop, ASO’s new second oboist, has performed with the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera, as well as playing several renowned events like Shostakovich Festival Leipzig and the Grand Teton Music Festival.

Farnell, appointed third horn, has appeared with the Dallas Symphony and shared the stage with legendary music artists Yo-Yo Ma and Andrea Bocelli.

Sanders, taking the fourth horn seat, previously held positions with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Sarasota Orchestra, in addition to being an accomplished chamber musician.

Kanai (first violin with ASO), born in Osaka, Japan, is a laureate of several music competitions and has served as a soloist with the Seattle Symphony, Sendai Philharmonic and Vancouver Symphony, among others.

Suk, also a first violinist with ASO, is a South Korea native who studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music and Rice University before performing with the likes of the London Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra and Houston Symphony.

“We are delighted to welcome these stellar musicians to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra,” said ASO Executive Director Jenifer Barlament. “Our orchestra is comprised of world-class musicians who have chosen to call Atlanta home.”

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s newest season of live musical performances begins this week.
