Kate’s Club, an Atlanta nonprofit that supports children, teens, and young adults after the death of a loved one, has received a $950,000 multi-year gift from the Chestnut Family Foundation.

The donation, the largest that Kate’s Club has received in its history, will go towards expanding upon the grief support services that the organization offers across the state of Georgia.

Since its founding in 2003, Kate’s Club has served more than 15,000 children through its clubhouse days initiative, school-based programs, as well as various outings and camps, all of which are offered free of charge.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Chestnut Family Foundation for its generosity,” said Kate’s Club Executive Director Lisa Aman. “This gift will allow us to achieve our core strategic priority: provide the highest quality youth and young adult grief support programs, rooted in best practices, throughout the state of Georgia, and ultimately create a world in which it’s okay to grieve.”

The Chestnut Family Foundation was founded by Teresa and Ben Chestnut, the latter of which is the co-founder and former chief executive officer of global software company, Mailchimp.

According to a press release, the foundation is dedicated to “distributing philanthropic gifts to Georgia-based organizations that have demonstrated compassion and creativity in their efforts to improve the lives of children.”

“Kate’s Club exemplifies the heart of the Chestnut Family Foundation’s purpose, which is to ensure children have access to resources that enable them to be healthy, develop self-confidence and enjoy life,” said Teresa Chestnut.

“We are very proud to support the organization’s commitment to creating a community where youth can feel supported in their most difficult times.”
