The Sandy Springs Mission will celebrate 25 years of empowering low-income students and families through education and character development during a luncheon on Oct. 30.
An anniversary luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church at 850 Mount Vernon Hwy. in Sandy Springs, according to a news release. The luncheon will bring together supporters, partners, community members, and beneficiaries to reflect on its history and to celebrate the positive impact of its programs.
The faith-based, community-driven nonprofit organization has impacted more than 5,000 low-income, English learner students and their families since its founding in 1999. According to the release, the Sandy Springs Mission provides academic enrichment, mentoring, and language support to open doors for brighter futures. It has served generations of families, including siblings, children, and even parents. This work helps to break cycles of poverty and build strong foundations for success.
Sandy Springs Mission students consistently improve English language proficiency, reading levels, and overall academic achievement. The release said that 95 percent of high school participants graduate on time, compared to 66 percent of English learners across the state. It said 91 percent of dual enrollment participants immediately enroll in college after graduation, compared to 53 percent of Hispanic graduates in the state.
The release said that the Sandy Springs Mission provides safe, structured after-school and summer opportunities to foster leadership, character development, and personal growth.
