Black and QTPOC-focused organization Southern Fried Queer Pride is hosting a mutual aid cabaret on Nov. 14, benefitting the Trans Women of Color Healing Project and Sol Underground.
The “It’s Giving” cabaret will feature more than 15 drag, burlesque, music, and comedy performers, all raising money for the benefiting organizations. Taylor ALXNDR will host the event from 8 to 11 p.m. at Red Light Café, 553-1 Amsterdam Ave.
TWOC Healing Project, founded by Toi Washington-Reynolds in 2019, combats the erasure of trans lives, narratives, and contributions to society and raises awareness of the work of trans women of color.
Sol Underground is a QTPOC-led abolitionist group working to enable poor, working class, and unhoused Black communities to harness their collective power and transform their material conditions. The organization hosts Free Store Fridays every first, second, and fourth Friday evening to provide free clothes, food, household items, books, and more to whoever needs it, and runs Sol Below, a winter warming station for unhoused people with hot food and drinks, winter clothing, sleeping bags, medicine, and more.
The cabaret will also act as a winter coat drive; attendees are encouraged to donate a coat or jacket at the door, which will be disseminated to unhoused Atlantans this winter.
“It’s Giving! A Mutual Aid Cabaret” is Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. at Red Light Café. Masks are required and will be provided. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $25 for VIP first row seating. To purchase and learn more, visit sfqp.info/give111425.
