The City of Chamblee will celebrate the grand reopening of Dresden Park and the unveiling of a new public art sculpture, Project Monarch: The Flight of Fortitude, by Georgia artist William Massey.
The event will be held on Dec. 13 at the park, 2301 Dresden Drive, starting at 1 p.m. The sculpture will be unveiled at 2 p.m.
“Created in collaboration with local residents, the city’s public arts manager, and a Spanish-speaking community liaison, the community-driven artwork celebrates resilience, transformation, and hope — values embodied by the monarch butterfly, a powerful symbol within immigrant communities,” according to a release from the city.
Dresden Park, according to the city’s website, was closed to the public as it underwent a 14-month renovation. The park was revitalized with artificially turfed rectangular fields and a multi-use field, tennis courts, a dog park, a large playground, a walking trail, a new concessions building, restrooms, a community center, a pavilion, a parking lot, lighting, and terraced seating.
Dresden Park is a 25-acre park located in the southeast area of Chamblee, which was annexed into the city in 2013.
In 2023, the city restored the Arrow Creek stream bank, which runs the length of the park.
