In alignment with Trans Day of Remembrance on Nov. 20, Black and QTPOC-focused organization Southern Fried Queer Pride is hosting Trans Pwr Week, five days of trans-centered events and spaces, from Nov. 19-23.
The week kicks off on Nov. 19 with the Trans Talent Show (21+), an open stage showcase for trans and non-binary performers of all kinds. Comedian Lauren Jones will host the show at Lore, and performances will feature drag king Tucker Aye ALXNDR, burlesque performer Ada Manzhart, and comedian Sunny Laprade. Tickets are sliding scale $5-$20, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Doors at 8 p.m., show starts at 9 p.m. RSVP here.
On Trans Day of Remembrance, drag performers Jaybella Banks and Mr. Elle Aye will host Transsensual: a Striplesque Showcase and Dance Party (21+) at Lore to celebrate the trans sex work community. Gogo dancers Valaree, Shaun, Vanessa, and Tucker will perform on the pole, stage, and dancefloor and will give private dances upon request – all with mandatory consent. Taylor ALXNDR and Abby Dear will DJ until 2 a.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door; RSVP here.
The festivities continue with Trans Movie and Chill at CreateATL on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.. SFQP will screen LGBTQ+ film “Bottoms,” Sassy’s Coffee will provide coffee and treats, and trans and non-binary people are invited to bring friends, craft, and relax in this sober, 18+ space. Tickets are sliding scale $5-$20, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. RSVP here.
Trans and non-binary people of all ages are invited for the Trans Bike Ride and Hangout on Nov. 22. The group will meet up at CreateATL at 11 a.m. before the ride, led by Faye Andres, kicks off at noon. The route will go through the streets and parts of the Beltline before ending at 97 Estoria for food and drinks. There will be a group ride back to CreateATL. This event is free, and no RSVP is required.
Trans Pwr Week ends on Nov. 23 with Trans Threads, a free pop-up thrift shop at CreateATL from 1-5 p.m. Clothing, electronics, media, and more will be available for free, plus there will be coffee and treats from Sassy’s Coffee and free STI testing courtesy of Someone Cares. This event is all ages.
