Sandy Springs resident Beth Fuller announced on Dec. 11 her candidacy as a Democrat for the Georgia House of Representatives District 53 seat.
Fuller served as a contractor for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta for a decade before the Trump administration laid off thousands of jobs in Georgia, including her contract, according to a news release.
Fuller is seeking the seat held by Republican Deborah Silcox, who won the election in November 2022 to represent District 53 in November 2022. The district encompasses parts of Sandy Springs, Buckhead, and Roswell.
Fuller said she’s running for the General Assembly seat to take on the skyrocketing cost of healthcare, keep communities safe, and invest in Georgia students.
“I’m running because Georgia families deserve bold leadership to navigate the challenges ahead. I refuse to stand by and watch Georgia politicians act as a rubber stamp for Trump’s agenda—or even worse, cheer on the destruction while Georgia families lose their jobs,” said Fuller, according to the release. “For over 25 years, I’ve worked in public health, advocating and educating policymakers on what it takes to build healthy communities.”
Fuller said she’s ready to work across the aisle to get the work done. She said providing affordable healthcare should unites Georgians, not divide them.
Susie Greenberg, who ran as a Democrat for the District 53 seat during the last election two years ago, said she’s supporting Fuller’s campaign.
“She has the experience to forge real, commonsense solutions to keep our families safe and healthy,” Greenberg said, according to the release.
Fullers lives in Sandy Springs with her husband and two school-age children who attend public schools in the area.
According to the release, Fuller earned her bachelor’s degree from Emory University; she also holds a master of science in Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a doctorate of public health from Columbia University.
