The nearly complete Atlanta Beltline isn’t just a tourist attraction or running spot. It’s also an artery that moves folks from one place in the city to another. As its usefulness as a people-mover grows, the Beltline is increasingly appealing as a haven for  micromobility — lightweight, low-speed vehicles suited for short urban trips, including e-bikes and e-scooters.

There can be a learning curve among some first-time e-bike and e-scooter users, but there’s no question that micromobility offers an exciting new option for the future of getting around Atlanta, given Atlanta was recently named a top 20 city for most time spent in traffic. Educating both residents and visitors on micromobility is more important than ever as the Beltline approaches completion and Atlanta’s eight 2026 World Cup matches are months away, all while the city continues growing. Softening that learning curve to get more folks on bikes, and safety, motivated Lime to team up with the Atlanta Beltline to offer free e-bike lessons this year.

From June to November, Lime and the Beltline hosted monthly First Ride Academies (FRAs) right on the Beltline where potential customers received hands-on instruction focused on e-bike handling, safe riding techniques, local regulations, and best practices for navigating city streets and trails and a complimentary helmet.

The most recent FRAs taught us that the Beltline is one of Atlanta’s venues for trying micromobility, and it makes perfect sense — people feel safer here thanks to ample riding space and the ABC campaign’s etiquette lessons

Lime and the Beltline also worked with the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATL DOT) to create dynamic speed zones (8 mph during peak hours and 10 mph during off-peak hours) to help keep riders safe.

Micromobility gets cars of the roads and offers Atlantans new ways to get where they are trying to go, sustainably. Education opens these doors for new riders to discover the flexibility two-wheeled transportation offers. It will be essential for Lime, Beltline, and ATL DOT to continue working closely together as the city plans for the World Cup, both educating riders as well as improving the city’s transportation routes to make the Atlanta Cup experience as sustainable and seamless as possible.

Earlier this year, Lime introduced two new vehicles, the LimeGlider and LimeBike to Atlanta, making it the first city in the world to feature both.
