DeKalb County’s leaders are honoring the giving season by hosting holiday food distributions in six DeKalb locations this weekend.
DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners will host a Holiday Drive-Thru Food Distribution Saturday, Dec. 20, as a continued effort to address the food insecurity for families struggling this holiday season.
“Food insecurity remains one of the most pressing challenges facing families across our nation, and DeKalb County is no exception,” said Cochran-Johnson. “After distributing 6,000 food boxes and gift cards during our Thanksgiving drive, we knew the need did not end there. ”
The DeKalb Food Resilience Initiative, a comprehensive effort from partners like the mobile markets at DeKalb Farm Fresh and larger scale distributions with MARTA, and fundraising like last week’s Spirit of DeKalb Awards Gala support DeKalb’s food distributions throughout the year. The county’s commissioners approved funding for Saturday’s multi-location food distribution.
No registration is required, but participation is open to DeKalb County residents only.
“This work is only possible through collaboration,” Cochran-Johnson said in a statement. “With the support of our Board of Commissioners, faith leaders, volunteers, and community partners, we are meeting families where they are and delivering help when it matters most.”
