Two people were shot at an Old Fourth Ward warming center on Thursday morning, according to Atlanta Police.

During a lunchtime press conference, APD said an “irate individual” began firing inside the city-operated warming center at 400 Merritts Avenue.

Two people sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to Grady Hospital for treatment. Both are expected to survive.

The suspect, who was apprehended by an APD officer, sustained a broken arm and was also taken to Grady for treatment. He has been identified as Antonio Wooten, 37.

The officer also discharged his weapon, but the sequence of events is still under investigation, officials said. The GBI will be investigating since the officer fired his weapon.

No guns are allowed at the warming center, and a metal detector was in place, so it’s unclear how the suspect got a gun inside the building.

The nearby Kendizi School was briefly placed on lockdown during the incident, according to officials.
