The winter storm watch has been upgraded to a winter storm warning for parts of north Georgia and a winter weather advisory for others.
The winter storm warning areas have the potential to see up to 2-4 inches of snow. The winter weather advisory areas have the potential to see up to 1-2 inches of snow. The snow is expected to begin in the early morning hours of Saturday before tapering off in the afternoon.
The winter storm warning is in effect Friday night through Sunday morning for: Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Dawson, Elbert, Fannin, Forsyth, Franklin, Greene, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, Walton, White.
The winter weather advisory is in effect for: Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dade, DeKalb, Douglas, Floyd, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Henry, Jasper, Murray, Newton, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Rockdale, Walker and Whitfield counties.

This is the second consecutive weekend that inclement weather has been in the forecast. Last weekend, Winter Storm Fern had the metro Atlanta area paralyzed for three days, forcing schools, entertainment venues, and government agencies to postpone or cancel events.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said in a media statemet that it is preparing for another winter weather event expected to have impacts across much of the state, beginning during the early morning hours of Saturday.
For most of the affected region, brine operations will begin at 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, in advance of expected snowfall; in metro Atlanta, brine operations will begin at 10 p.m. this evening. Georgia DOT crews will focus on interstates and critical and high-priority route followed by treatment of additional routes as conditions allow.
