Police have identified the officers who were shot at a hotel near Stone Mountain.
The shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning inside a room at Holiday Inn Express on Parke Plaza Circle and East Park Place.
Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure said the officers were invited to the room to investigate a fraud report and were talking with the suspect when he got out a gun and shot the officers in an “unprovoked attack.”

Officer Pradeep Temang, 25, died of his wounds at the hospital. McClure said Temang had been with the department for less than a year. The officer was from Nepal and immigrated to Pennsylvania.
A second officer, Cpl. David Reed, was wounded. He is in stable condition.
The suspect, Kevin Andrews, 35, was also wounded. McClure says he has multiple felony convictions, including for gun and violent crimes, and had outstanding warrants. Andrews was taken to the hospital, treate,d and released. He’s currently in the Gwinnett County Jail.
McClure assured the community that “we will not be deterred” in the face of this violent attack.
This is the first Gwinnett County officer death in the line of duty since Officer Antwan Toney was shot and killed in 2018. McClure said that Cpl. Reed graduated from the same police academy class as Toney.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting. McClure said the department is working with the district attorney’s office on an appropriate charge for Andrews.
