Some residents in a neighborhood off Dunwoody Club Drive will have to take the scenic route home for about 60 days.

As part of DeKalb County’s Bend Creek Sewer Improvement Project, crews plan to close Dunwoody Club Drive between Braddock Court and Bend Creek Road from Feb. 5 through March 27, according to an announcement from the City of Dunwoody.

“During this closure, detour signs will be in place to direct traffic around the closed portion of the road,” the announcement said. “The road closure will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.”

The scope of work

This project, according to a DWM press release published last fall, will involve the replacement of “approximately 2,310 feet of gravity sewer main along Bend Creek
Road.”

In addition, the work will include installing 12 new manholes and new sewer service connections to 30 homes.

A presentation made by Kerry Williams, the Deputy Director of Engineering and Construction Management Services, at a virtual meeting held on Aug. 26, 2025, outlined the timeline for the work, which was to start in early September 2025 and end this September.

Residents reported that signs about the impending project were installed in the affected area last September, but no firm date for the work to begin was announced before the city’s Feb. 3 notice.

Rough Draft has reached out to DWM officials regarding the revised time frame for the project and will update this story as more information becomes available.

DeKalb County is under a consent decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) that formalizes implementation of sanitary sewer system programs and improvements.

In order to finance these repairs, estimated at more than $4 billion, DeKalb County residents will see a 10 percent increase in their bills each year for the next 10 years.

Another Dunwoody-area project

Another project in the Dunwoody area, on Dunwoody Knoll and Chamblee Dunwoody Road, is ongoing. The project is expected to last approximately 12 months, officials said, and will affect a handful of roads in addition to Chamblee Dunwoody, including Roberts Drive, Fairfield, Dunwoody Walk, Harris Circle, and Harris Court.

Originally, the project was scheduled to start in 2028, but priorities were shifted because of the frequency of breaks along the corridor over the past few years.
