Fulton County Schools arrested a Sandy Springs middle schooler, who was a former Heards Ferry Elementary student, the morning of Feb. 4, after he allegedly attacked several children and a staff member on the school’s playground.

Fulton County School officials confirmed the incident took place and said a full investigation is underway.

“The child was apprehended quickly by Fulton County Schools police, and was detained as the parent was brought in,” the district said in a statement. “Students sustained minor injuries and were medically evaluated. We do not have any information yet about possible charges.”

Heards Ferry, one of six elementary schools in Sandy Springs, is located just south of I-285 off Powers Ferry Road.

Fulton County Schools and Heards Ferry officials did not explain why the middle-schooler was on campus, the specific injuries inflicted on others, or any motivation for the assaults.

In a letter to families, Principal Karen Cooke said her staff appreciates the calm handling of the situation and cooperation shown by the school community.

“Today, our fourth-grade classes had an opportunity to meet with the administration and our counseling staff, who provided space for students to ask questions, share feelings, and receive reassurance,” Cooke wrote. “As we continue to support our students, our full care team will be on campus tomorrow.”
