After feedback from customers, MARTA will allow Breeze balance transfers as it switches from the current fare payment system to a new one.
Customers are still encouraged to spend down their stored fare by May 2, according to a news release. Remaining balances may be transferred from a current registered account to a new, registered Breeze account from May 2 through Oct. 30, 2026.
MARTA is upgrading its entire Breeze fare payment system, including faregates and fareboxes, ticket vending machines, and fare media. Beginning March 28 through May 2, 2026, both the current and new Breeze systems will be active so customers can spend down their existing fare balance, purchase new fare media and create an account, or use the new tap to pay feature where you can simply tap a bank card or mobile wallet at the faregate or farebox to ride.

Current Breeze fare media is not compatible with the better Breeze system and will not work after May 2, MARTA said. Customers with circumstances that prevent them from spending stored fare may transfer their balances from their current registered Breeze account to a new, registered Breeze account May 2 – Oct. 30, 2026.
“MARTA understands that some of our customers have large amounts of fare stored on their accounts and due to their riding habits, will not be able to use that balance by May 2 when the current Breeze system is turned off,” said MARTA Interim General Manager Jonathan Hunt. “We will work with each individual to ensure their money is safely moved to a new Breeze account, so they are able to continue riding MARTA when it meets their needs.”
MARTA will provide further information about how to transfer Breeze balances in early March.
