Key Points:
- A power outage closed three Krog Street Market businesses on Friday.
- Recess, Superica, and Hop City Beer & Wine, along with the shop’s bar, are the only affected businesses at the market.
- It appears a power surge caused an outage in the front half of the Krog Street Market building.

A power outage that began Thursday afternoon has temporarily closed three Krog Street Market businesses. Recess, Superica, and Hop City Beer & Wine, along with the shop’s bar, remain temporarily closed on Friday.
It appears a power surge caused an outage in the front half of the Krog Street Market building. Beyond the three affected businesses, all other restaurants, stalls, and retail shops were open and operating as normal at Krog Street Market and the surrounding Krog District.
“Still no power at Recess, Superica, or Hop City while Krog Street tackles a major electrical outage,” a post on Recess’ Instagram read. “We had to throw out hundreds of pounds of fresh produce and proteins, and once the lights come back on, it’ll take us a full day to remake all the homemade dressings and roasted veggies from scratch. When we finally reopen, your support will mean the world.”
Signs taped to the front doors of Superica and Hop City notified customers of the Friday closures.

A Krog Street Market employee told Rough Draft early Friday afternoon that an electrician was on site attempting to restore power to the affected businesses.
The power was still out at Superica, Recess, and Hop City at 3 p.m.
“There’s an electrical issue impacting Hop City, Superica, and Recess at Krog Street Market,” a spokesperson for Krog District told Rough Draft. “The Krog District is working quickly to resolve the issue and get impacted tenants open soon.”
Rough Draft also spoke to a handful of employees working at Krog Street Market restaurants and stalls. They either declined to comment, or could not provide more information on the power outage.
The temporary closures at Krog Street Market come on one of the busiest dining days of the week, and after two weekends in a row of winter weather-related restaurant and business closures in January.
