RedefinED Atlanta announced that Lars Minns, a Sandy Springs resident and chief human resources officer of Mercedes-Benz North America, has joined the nonprofit’s board of directors.

The nonprofit is entering its second decade of working to ensure every Metro Atlanta student has access to trajectory-changing K–12 public education options. RedefinED works closely with educators, families, community partners, and civic leaders to create more opportunities and support new ideas that lead to broad-scale change.

Minns is a member of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank’s Human Capital Advisory Council, the Society HR Management’s Executive Council, and Leadership Atlanta. Under his leadership, Mercedes-Benz North America is undergoing a transformation in its pursuit to be the most desired electric luxury brand in the automotive industry.

RedefinED Atlanta uses grants to bolster programming at public schools, looking to improve school quality and student performance. The nonprofit supports more than 15,000 students across 23 schools, primarily in the city of Atlanta and Clayton County. Its investments in metro Atlanta public schools total $20 million.

Angira Sceusi, executive director of RedefinED Atlanta, said the staff is excited to welcome Minns.

“His experience leading human capital strategy for a global brand, combined with his deep civic engagement here in Atlanta, brings a powerful perspective to our organization,” Sceusi said. “Lars understands that strong talent pipelines and strong public schools are inextricably linked, and his insights will help us continue expanding opportunity for students across the region.”

Curley M. Dossman, Jr., a founding board member, is stepping down after 10 years. Patrice Johnson is also resigning from board service after three years, according to RedefinED Atlanta’s statement.

“We are also profoundly grateful to Patrice and Curley for their years of guidance and unwavering commitment, which have helped shape RedefinED Atlanta into the organization it is today and prepare us for the future,” Sceusi said.
