As part of the recently approved partnership between the City of Tucker and Cooper Carry to create a community-driven master plan for Henderson Park, three community hikes are planned throughout April. The series of hikes are designed to get Tucker residents to Henderson Park so they can provide feedback on what’s working well and what needs improvement in the beloved outdoor space.

The first hike will take place on Wednesday, April 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mayor Anne Lerner and members of the parks and recreation department will be in attendance to celebrate National Walking Day with a tour of the west side of Henderson Park and Lake Erin. The hike will kick off at the Community Garden off Henderson Road.
The second hike, on Wednesday, April 8, from noon to 1 p.m., will focus on the east side of the park and lake. This hike meets at the tennis courts off Livsey Road and Henderson Park Road.
The series ends on Saturday, April 18. This family-friendly session will focus on the park’s play spaces from 4 to 5 p.m.. Free Kona Ice will be provided to those who participate, and attendees will meet at the playground by the community garden off Henderson Road.
The hike series is the first of several community engagement events organized by Cooper Carry, an award-winning architectural and design firm. The firm was granted a $88,800 contract by members of the Tucker City Council on March 9 to conduct a 27-week community-engagement strategy.
At the end of the community feedback project, the firm will present up to two master plans of Henderson Park, which will include a phased project prioritization list and estimated costs for construction and maintenance.
Henderson Park, which spans approximately 111 acres, includes amenities like Lake Erin, a waterfall, soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic shelters, hiking trails, a dog park, a native plant and wildlife walk, and a community garden.
The final Henderson Park master plan presentation is tentatively scheduled for September 2026.
