LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations in Atlanta will celebrate the transgender community on Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31.

TDOV, celebrated every year since 2010, honors the joy, achievements, and resilience of the trans community while drawing attention to the disproportionate levels of poverty, discrimination, and violence the community continues to face.

This year, organizations Trans Joy, SnapCo, and Charis Books & More will host events for the annual observance.

On March 28, Trans Joy will host a family-friendly event on the lawn of Church at Ponce and Highland from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will include games, crafts, snacks, face-painting, and a performance by the Atlanta Freedom Bands.

The same day, Charis Books & More will host a TDOV family gathering and story time from noon to 3 p.m. at Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur. The event will include stories, games, art, and play for trans and gender non-conforming kids ages five to 15, but younger and older siblings are also welcome.

The celebration closes out on March 31 with the annual Deeper Than Visibility Summit, hosted by SnapCo at Atlanta City Hall from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Last year’s event featured a panel discussion featuring prominent trans and LGBTQ+ leaders. This year’s theme is “Shift the Narrative: Gag the Right,” which centers the need to disrupt coordinated right-wing messaging and misinformation about the trans community.
