The Brookhaven Police Department arrested Vesselin G. Tzvetkov, 79, on April 1 in connection with a shooting outside Kroger at Cherokee Plaza, 3871 Peachtree Road, on March 22, according to a release from the department.
“The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the incident that left a 75-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen,” the release said. “Following swift investigative work, detectives successfully identified and located
Tzvetkov, demonstrating the department’s commitment to solving serious crimes in the community.”

Following the incident, detectives released videos and photographs of a person of interest, describing him as a possible white or Hispanic male last seen wearing a black hat, a blue jacket, dark pants, and carrying a black tote bag with tan straps.
“Through a thorough and persistent investigation,” detectives identified Tzvetkov as the suspect, and he was taken into custody around East Club Drive in Brookhaven,
Tzvetkov was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail at 2 p.m. on April 1, where he remains, according to jail records.
The City of Brookhaven had a rough weekend in mid-March, when a multi-vehicle fire led to the partial collapse of a parking garage on Clairmont Road, as well as two shooting incidents – one in the busy Kroger parking lot, and a double homicide at an apartment complex near Buford Highway.
Alexander Galvez Hernandez, 20, Kenner Davila-Meza, 17, and Jaciel Ozuna-Valente, 17, were arrested in connection with the Clairmont Road shooting that killed the pair, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man.
