Locals and visitors alike have a sweet new reason to anticipate Atlanta’s World Cup matches this summer. Atlanta’s premier popsicle purveyor, King of Pops, will launch a limited-edition series of flavors inspired by teams playing World Cup matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The new flavors are also the vehicle for a contest giving away prizes, including Pop Cup scarves and tickets to the semifinal match on July 15. Each pop’s wrapper features a scannable code to enter the drawing for semifinal tickets and a prize package. The first 100 people to collect all eight World Cup flavors will win a scarf.

King of Pops founder Steve Carse said the idea expanded from the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” Road Trip series the company released last year.

“Maybe people weren’t that into [the 2025] prize. We tried to think of what people [would] like, so we bought some World Cup tickets to the semifinals,” Carse said.

Then, the King of Pops team got to work and searched for the flavors that best represented the countries headed to Atlanta for matches this summer. Flavor development lead Jessica Luna polled people via Reddit to determine each popsicle’s ingredients and flavors.

“[Jessica] was talking to everyone she could find from all these countries to try to kind of have it be as authentic as possible, and still, a delicious popsicle. I think she nailed it,” he said.

World Cup King of Pops flavors:

  • Cape Verde: Doce de coco (coconut caramel)
  • Haiti: Ji korosol (soursop and lime)
  • Morocco: Moroccan mint tea (green tea and spearmint)
  • Saudi Arabia: Halwa (sesame and honey)
  • South Africa: Granadilla and naartjie (passionfruit and orange)
  • Spain: Tinto de verano (wine-inspired with muscadine)
  • United States: Stars and stripes (strawberry, vanilla, and blueberry)
  • Uzbekistan: Kompot (cherry and apricot)

Because Congo DR and Czechia did not qualify until late March, King of Pops wasn’t able to develop flavors for those countries.

King of Pops is currently searching for Atlantans from each represented country to serve as “pop ambassadors” during the World Cup this summer.

The new pops will debut in early May wherever King of Pops products are sold, Carse said. King of Pops will also have a setup in South Downtown on match days. He anticipates that certain flavors will be harder to find than others.
