Senior living that makes the cut

Tuesday, April 21 — Curious which senior living facilities in Georgia have earned top accolades? Check out our first story to find out which 23 Metro Atlanta communities were recognized.

We also have details on the Piedmont Conservancy luncheon on Thursday. The event is set to highlight enhancements that have been made as a result of the first Piedmont Park Comprehensive Plan in 25 years.

And now for a few headlines:

🏗️ A controversial rezoning proposal to allow construction of an apartment building for homeless senior citizens in the Kirkwood neighborhood is back on the Atlanta Zoning Review Board‘s agenda for its April 30 meeting at 6 p.m.

🗳 The State Election Board is recommending that counties get ready to conduct elections using hand-marked paper ballots after July 1, the date when local election boards will have to stop using QR codes to count ballots.

🏥 According to a report in The Current, more than 550,000 Georgians dropped ACA health coverage after Covid-era subsidies expired, a drop that is raising alarms about the financial viability of the state’s rural hospitals.

📖 The Fulton County Library System is inviting residents to once again take part in its annual One Book, One Read program by reading “The Last One at the Wedding” by Jason Rekulak.

These Georgia senior living facilities are among the best in U.S. Did your area’s make the list?

🌟 Nationally, the aging population is entering a phase of rapid growth, with many of the first members of the Baby Boom generation entering their 80s, driving up demand for senior living and the need for a state aging plan.

“That 80-plus population is expected to grow by nearly 25% in the next five years, and to double by 2035,” said Liz Pearce, director of Senior Living at U.S. News & World Report.

Fortunately, dozens of Georgia senior living spots just made U.S. News & World Report’s latest list, and 23 of those communities are in the Atlanta Metro area.

U.S. News & World Report based its ratings on a comprehensive national survey of residents and their family members, evaluating critical aspects of community life, including dining and activities, management and staff responsiveness, overall value, social engagement, and safety and caregiving.

Piedmont Park Conservancy hosting annual Landmark Luncheon on April 23

🌻 The Piedmont Park Conservancy will host its annual Landmark Luncheon on April 23 at The Promenade in the park. Now in its 29th year, the annual event will bring together community leaders, supporters and park advocates – along with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, who is set to be a guest speaker – to highlight the impact of the city’s most visited green space.

This year’s theme, “Putting the Plan in Motion: Progress, Impact and What Comes Next,” will highlight several enhancements that were made to the green space as part of the park’s first Comprehensive Plan in 25 years – including the renovation of the pool and Aquatic Center.

“Piedmont Park belongs to all of Atlanta. Its success is a direct reflection of the strength of our public-private partnership and the passion of this community. The Landmark Luncheon is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together,” said Doug Widener, president and chief executive officer of Piedmont Park Conservancy.

VIA SAPORTAREPORT

⛲ It was rumored to have miraculous healing properties and, if the first-person accounts were to be believed, drinking the water from this spring was good for what ails you.

Miracle cure or not, what it most definitely turned out to be was a really good business opportunity.

🌊 It is the tale of thirst and the men who brought the people to the water on this week’s Stories of Atlanta.
