The Everest you don’t have to climb
Friday, April 24 — It’s Cathy and Katie with our weekly newsletter. The sheer volume of unsolicited emails that pass through our inboxes is insane, and most don’t apply to Rough Draft Atlanta’s coverage area or are just silliness.
The most ridiculous ones are in the “Top 10” clickbait category, which, for some reason, Cathy likes to open, just in case Georgia is ranked first in the nation for something important. FYI, it’s never worth the time.
🐊 Here’s a recent one – Georgia, with exactly ONE fatal alligator attack in 2007, is the fifth riskiest state in the Southeast for becoming an alligator mississippiensis’ next meal. Scroll to the bottom to find the #1 state, with 32 known alligator fatalities.
Let’s get onto the news, but first, a few notes of interest.
📺 Not only is Tucker hosting an event for residents to rid themselves of their electronics tomorrow, but it also includes home medical equipment, which, to me, epitomizes sadness just by its presence after its useful life is over. BTW, the event will not accept tube televisions (what are those anyway?)
🍜 In our dining editor’s weekly newsletter called Side Dish, Beth McKibben raves about Everest Gorkhali Kitchen, a new restaurant on Lawrenceville Highway, and shows some love to other Tucker-area restaurants.
🧑🎤 ARTucker is coming up on May 2.
Have a great weekend,
Cathy and Katie

Tucker celebrates Paul Allison
🎙️The Tucker community will honor the life of musician and owner of Music Trader, Paul Allison, with a memorial jam on April 26. Allison died on March 6 after battling with ALS, a terminal neurodegenerative disease. He was found outside Music Trader that night and passed the next morning.
Allison owned and ran the buy-sell-trade music store since it opened in the same location on Lawrenceville Highway in 1985. Over the last 40 years, he has earned a reputation as an honest and trustworthy business leader.
“Paul was a great small business owner who focused on people,” Matthew Lee, the executive director of the Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District, told Rough Draft. “He was never going to take advantage of anybody. He was more interested in getting the person what they needed than the sale.”

Burger: yes, coffee: no
🍔 The Tucker Planning Commission voted to recommend approval for a new Whataburger drive-thru at 4453 Hugh Howell Road during a meeting on April 16.
The site plan, which proposes to remodel the former Wendy’s located at the site, includes 24/7 service, a single drive-thru lane, the addition of open-air dining and landscaping, and the relocation of the drive-thru speaker away from the residential area to eliminate noise.
The planning commission also voted to recommend deferral on plans for a 7 Brew drive-thru coffee shop on Lawrenceville Highway during the meeting.
