Challah Day is here

Thurs., April 30 (13 Iyar 5786)

🚨 Many of us woke up early Wednesday to reports of two Jewish men stabbed in London. The alleged attacker has been detained.

🗳️ Early voting started this week. Is it Jewish to vote? Speaking of politics, two Jewish-adjacent bills are awaiting Gov. Brian Kemp’s signature: SB 523 and HB 1379. Each focuses on transparency, civil rights, and education.

🥖 National Challah Day is being celebrated this weekend with Challah Back Girls™ and OneTable gatherings. Publix is a solid choice, but when you’re feeling frisky order from Atlanta’s Challah Girl – you’ll be glad you did.

🗞️ Read on for news about the Memorial to the Six Million being recognized for excellence in restoration.

Send Y’alla to a friend this Shabbat

Holocaust memorial receives award

🏆 The Georgia Trust for Historical Preservation has recognized the Memorial to the Six Million, the first of its kind to be constructed in Georgia, for its 2024 renovation. Karen Lansky Edlin of Eternal Life-Hemshech said she is honored to be part of the process.

“We give lasting thanks to the survivors who built, designed and raised the money amongst themselves in order to pass along this legacy,” Edlin told Rough Draft.

Cheers to the volunteers

🫶🏻 Volunteers Joel Marks and Craig Lefkoff (pictured) can often be found together, dressed in bright colors and patterns as they deliver games and crafts to the patients of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital.

🦩 Friends since the 1990s, the pair signed up to volunteer together as grandparents and early retirees. Their signature shirts have bloomed into an entire wardrobe of themes from Disney to holiday to dill pickles, endearing the patients and worried family members.

He was president of his synagogue. Now he wants to be LA’s next mayor

🇮🇱 LOS ANGELES — Adam Miller (pictured) volunteered with a Reform social justice movement as a teenager, lived in Israel as a young adult and became a leader of one of the country’s most successful synagogues.

But Miller, a businessman who is running for mayor of Los Angeles, hasn’t said much about his Jewish background on the campaign trail. Instead, he has been talking about his entrepreneurial credentials — he sold his software company for $5.2 billion in 2021 — and touting the accomplishments of the nonprofits he started. His campaign site doesn’t mention his Jewish connections at all.
